INABA is an architecture office founded by Jeffrey Inaba that specializes in content development and design. The firm’s creative process involves a unique method of analysis to first define a project’s objectives and then to oversee all aspects of its production. This stems from the practice’s broader philosophy to grasp the depths of a problem and once it is appraised, to provide clients with findings that assist in making better-informed decisions during planning, design and realization phases.
INABA’s concept-based approach is the foundation for its strategy and content services, including those involving urban planning advising for Al Ghurair Development, University of Miami, the City of Miami, and the Urban Design Institute of Korea; editorial development and media design for the Public Art Fund and the Pacific Foundation; and creative development for Axe Body Spray, Microsoft, Coca Cola and Nissan Infiniti.
A commitment to insight, creative thinking and careful execution underscores the firm’s approach to architecture projects. INABA transforms observations about culture, human interaction and the urban environment into comprehensively designed artifacts, including those for Whitney Museum of American Art, Union Square Hospitality Group, New Museum, X-Initiative, Walker Art Center, the City of Miami, Storefront for Art and Architecture, Enel Contemporanea, Pitti Immagine, Gyeonggido Museum of Modern Art and private residential clients. INABA has been published in The Financial Times, FRAME, Mark Magazine, Urban China, Domus, Art Review, Artforum, The New York Times, Archinect and BLDGBLOG.
The precision of the firm’s design approach stems from Inaba’s extensive background in analysis and planning. Jeffrey Inaba is the Director of C-Lab, a think tank at Columbia University‘s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation which studies urbanism and architecture and makes policy recommendations. These ideas are broadcast through Volume Magazine, where Inaba is the Features Editor, and numerous publications including the recent book, World of Giving. Previously, Rem Koolhaas and he co-directed the Harvard Project on the City, a research program investigating contemporary urbanism worldwide. And before starting INABA, he was a principal of AMO, the research consultancy founded by Koolhaas’ Office for Metropolitan Architecture. In addition to being a faculty member at Columbia, Inaba has taught at UCLA, Harvard and SCI-Arc. He serves on the Mayor’s Design Advisory Panel in Los Angeles and as an advisor to several private institutions. Inaba received Master of Architecture with Distinction and MA in Philosophy of Architecture degrees from Harvard University, and an AB with Highest Honors from University of California, Berkeley.
